Fluorescent tubes, also known as fluorescent bulbs or fluorescent lamps have improved massively over the past few years. They are all now triphosphor as opposed to the old halophosphate ones. Triphosphor fluorescent tubes are a dramatic improvement over basic Standard fluorescent tubes with a much longer lifespan and better light level maintenance over its lifetime.
They are one inch in diameter and are called a T8 tube, this is because they are eight eights of an inch!
The wattage will tell you which tube you need for your fitting as this cannot be changed (you cannot put a 70 watt tube in a 58 watt fitting) so if you aren’t sure which lamp you need you just need to check the wattage of the lamp you are replacing and match that. If you cannot see the wattage on the old fluorescent lamp then of course you can just measure it
The newer triphosphor tubes don’t flicker, give 12% more light output and last twice as long. They don’t go “creamy” with age either.
All around a superior product, which in our opinion offers better value than the basic tubes – and they aren’t being discontinued!
If your fluorescent tubes aren’t starting well then it is worth changing the starter as this might sort out your problem
We also have a range of fluorescent fittings available if your fitting is beyond repair!
Of course you can always upgrade to LED tubes if you want to upgrade your existing fittings without having to change them
