These shatterproof fluorescent tubes are used in factories and workshops and in particular food processing industry where there can be no possibility of glass fragments getting into the products.
Basically they are a normal fluorescent tube with a shrink wrapped outer skin which will not tear or split. If the tube is broken the glass is contained within the coating and so there is no danger of contamination below the light fitting.
Perfect for all kinds of catering establishments but they are also useful to have if you are working under fluorescent fittings without a diffuser over them.
